At Outside In Leisure Products, we have extensive experience in installing and maintaining pools, and we know how to keep your pool water clean and sanitary. If you have been having trouble with your pool water, we encourage you to reach out to us for help. In this article, we will go over the various pool chemicals we use to maintain the ideal swimming environment.
- Sanitizers – The first type of pool chemical you will need to keep your pool clean and healthy is a sanitizer. Chemicals in this category kill bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens that would otherwise contaminate your water and spread disease. The most common type of sanitizer is chlorine, but others, such as bromine, are also used.
- pH Control – Some pool chemicals you will need to ensure the water is safe to swim in are pH increasers and decreasers. The pH level of your water tells you how acidic or basic the water is—if the pH goes too far in either direction, it will irritate the eyes and skin. To maintain the right pH level (which is between 7.4 and 7.6), you will need to keep both a pH increaser and decreaser on hand.
- Algaecide – Among the pool chemicals you should always have on hand are algaecides. If you don’t regularly treat your pool water with this chemical, the water will turn green with algae. We strongly encourage you to treat your pool with algaecide frequently, as algae blooms can appear with very little warning.
