Many people use the words “spas” and “hot tubs” interchangeably. But they are different, and those differences should be considered when looking into purchasing. First, spas are larger than hot tubs. This is due to spas often being used for relaxation, exercise, and swimming, and the larger size allows space for movement. While both hot tubs and spas usually have jets, in spas, those jets help create resistance during your exercise program. In contrast, hot tubs are smaller and created with seating used to only relax and unwind.

What Are the Differences Between Hot Tubs and Spas?

Another major difference between hot tubs and spas is that hot tubs are freestanding and portable. They come fully built and ready to use. However, spas are traditionally in-ground structures, meaning you would need to have the ground prepared, water and electrical connected to the area, and then you could have a spa installed. It is a more extensive process. This does not mean that spas are not worth the time and effort, though. Due to their larger space, they have more room for gathering friends and family together. They also have a variety of different features that hot tubs do not have.

On the other hand, this is not to say that hot tubs are not worth it. While a spa would be great for exercise, relaxation, and its special features, due to its built-in nature it cannot be moved to a new location in the yard or taken with you if you were to move to a new home. In this case, hot tubs are more beneficial if you are not sure you will be in your home long-term.
